Prayer for Israel

Wednesday July 26, 2006
With no end in sight to the turmoil in the Middle East, many suspect a World War III in our near future. End time prophesies seem to point to an escalation in the violence and conflict. Yet no matter where you stand politically or spiritually regarding the current unrest in Israel and Lebanon, as Christians we can unite on one front: prayer for Israel.

Why do Christians Pray for Israel?

Israel as a nation and a people are God's chosen people. In Deuteronomy 32:10 and Zechariah 2:8, the Lord God calls Israel "the apple of his eye." And to Abraham, God said in Genesis 12:2-3, "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (NIV) Psalm 122:6 also encourages us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Though you are actually talking about the biblical region of Israel and not the current state of Israel, your title suggests a political bias if one doesn’t read further.

I say a moral person would have hope for all people and for an end to war. Muslims and Christians are all people and all deserve to live in peace.

(4) R. Higgins says:

Why is it that evangelical Christians seems to rebuild the middle wall of partition that Paul says has been broken down by Christ between Jew and Gentile. It seems they keep wanting to put the Jews and Israel on a whole separate plane. As if Israel is different from the Church. Israel is not. Jew and Gentile are one in Christ Jesus. The Jews will have to come thru Christ and no one else. They will have to confess sin same as Gentiles with no special favor. Evangelicals need to stop seeing Israel like some pin in the cog wheel of Biblical prophecy. Go to Israel and preach Christ Jesus boldly no matter the consequences and being called anti semites or having no respect for Judiasm. Today all must come to the throne of grace one way irrespective of being Jew or Arab or any other gentile. Pray for all the Middle East with no distinctions. For all are under sin. Stop building back the wall that Christ broke down once and for all.

(5) Stuart Kirkham says:

All Christians should pray for Israel and the peace of Jerusalem. Israel is God’s land which he gave to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendents. Scripture is very clear on this.

Stop preaching such biased philosophies . Nobody is superior . All men are brothers because all have descended from Adam and Ewe.world is in search of peace and it can only be achieved if we behave as brothers . i am not a christian but i still believe in Jesus that He would never ever have taught such criminal superiority which creates such differences amongstdifferent religions . if you say you are a christian you must do what Jesus taught otherwise you will be a hypocrite . so i request you to teach universal brotherhood as muslims do and as islam teaches.

Jesus has broken down the partision between the Jewish believer and gentile but a reading of the earlt part of Roman’s 11, for a start gives the gentile believer sone very Blessed words about how we should view, talk about, view the jewish non-beliver in Yeshua as the Messiah (for a start do not boast against the root) and we the church are Grafted into Israel, the Children of Israel are very important, so to are Christian children of God: my key learning through praying for Israel over some years is to remember that we as the church of Jesus are grafted into Israel, because that is what the bible says, and it also say that Christ has knocked down the diving wall betwee jewish person and gentile believer, Hallelujah
