An important moment in the history of Christian denominations took place in the year 1054 AD with the formal split between the Eastern Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church. This date marked the very first major division in Christendom and the beginning of "denominations." Today more than 1500 Christian faith groups are in existence, sadly revealing that Christianity is a severely divided religion. If you'd like to learn a bit more about the origin and evolution of Christian denominations, I've put together this overview. Our study of the different denominations has been an ongoing "work in progress" and this week we'll focus on the Eastern Orthodox Church:
