Christian Voters: Still Undecided?
Friday January 11, 2008
You're not alone! Christians in the U.S. are not only divided on who to vote for in this year's presidential election, many remain undecided as well. This is evidenced by looking at some of the presidential endorsements from prominent Christian leaders:
- Televangelist Pat Roberston endorses Rudy Giuliani.
- The family of fundamentalist Jerry Falwell endorses Mike Huckabee.
- Evangelical Bob Jones III of Bob Jones University endorses Mitt Romney.
- Progressive leader Brian McLaren is hopeful about Barack Obama.
- Conservative evangelical James Dobson has not endorsed any of the candidates.

Here is a potential problem with endorsements: they can cause us to think less. While I might respect an endorser, I may not agree with him or her, or the reasons they support a candidate. I believe as Christians we have a responsibility to think well; we need to know not only what we believe, but why we believe (or as the Bible says, “ready to give an answer.”).
“Leave the matter of religion to the family altar, the Church, and the private schools, supported entirely by private contributions. Keep the church and state forever separate.”
– Ulysses S, Grant, address delivered in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1875

I’m not following the connection between comments 2 & 3 and the original post.
As the document you have linked to clearly reveals, separation of church and state was originally designed to keep the state and federal government from interfering in matters of religion, not to prevent faith or religion from influencing one’s decisions regarding elected officials.
Looking at all the crap that has been going on since GB took over office, scares the crap out of me, I’d not like to see another one like him holding the world hostage. Like he said, “Either you’re with us or you’re not.”
That GodVoter.org link is insulting. It compares the candidates to an absurdly narrow view of what religious beliefs are acceptable. How is one to know whether one’s beliefs match GodVoter.org’s beliefs? Or is one just supposed to accept GodVoter.org’s assertion that their beliefs are correct?

You’re right. GodVoter’s opinions on the candidates are extreme. I plan to post (later today) an unbiased comparison of the candidate’s positions on faith-related issues and remove the link to GodVoter.org.
I am scared to vote for McCain, and I don’t think Obama is gonna change our course fast enough (energy conservation/consumption). I wanna vote for Ron Paul but I don’t think he has a chance.
I guess I think Obama is the least bad of the two. I can’t see voting for McCain who cheated on his wife and is now with the “other woman”.
Considering Obama is postively un-American, anti-military (as evident by his scripted tour of Iraq), & has Marxist “friends”…no way I’m gonna vote for him. Matter of fact, I only know of 3 people who would…& I’m in a unit comprised of over 400 people! I have serious doubts on his character. Not fond of McCain, but at least he pretends to be conservative on several issues. Additionally, with the left-field pick of Gov. Palin as VP, I think BHO is on his 14th minute of fame. She’s solid, far more than he is. Still, whoever walks away with the win this November…it’ll be a short 4 years, I just hope a true leader emerges…the likes of Teddy Roosevelt. To the Colors.
