Weekly Prayers & Poems - Stress Relief Prayer

Thursday July 10, 2008
This week's post is a prayerful Christian hymn called Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. Are you lacking peace? Are you feeling stressed? This timeless hymn written by John Greenleaf Whittier is a wonderful prayer for stress relief. It assures us that with confidence, trust and rest, we can be led by God's still small voice of calm.
    Dear Lord and Father of Mankind

    Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
    Forgive our fev'rish ways!
    Reclothe us in our rightful mind;
    In purer lives Thy service find,
    In deeper rev'rence, praise.

    In simple trust like theirs who heard,
    Beside the Syrian sea,
    The gracious calling of the Lord,
    Let us, like them, without a word
    Rise up and follow Thee.
