There's no doubt we are living in hard times.

Many of us are deeply concerned about the economic crisis in our world today. As we watch our retirement funds dwindle away to almost nothing, we begin to feel the effects of financial instability, and it's easy for us to start fretting over the future.

Perhaps your fears are less directed toward the future and more urgently focused on the here and now. Have you been laid off from your job? Did you lose your health insurance benefits? Were you forced to give up your home?

I encourage you to stop, take a deep breath and remember: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1, NIV) As believers in Jesus Christ, we can trust our Savior and turn to him in hard times. God cares for us and he is sovereign. His Holy Word is sure and his promises are true. Take some time to ease your worries and calm your fears by meditating on these Bible verses for troubled times.

(1) Jack Zavada says:

I’ve had a lot of crises in my life, and I always think the latest one is going to be the end.

Then, as Mary says, I try to calm down and think about the history of the faithfulness of God over my lifetime. He has gotten me through every hard time in the past and he will get me through this one too. It’s good to refresh your memory that way.

God has us in his grip–you and me–and he will never, ever let go, no matter what happens. Keep reminding yourself of that, no matter how many times a day you have to repeat it.

(2) Minister JaMilner says:

With Jesus just know that you can make it. You will stand in the name of Jesus. You will live and not die, the devil is defeated. Test and trials seems to have you down but just know that your not along. With Jesus you can make it, hold on and don’t let go. You will make it! You will make it! You will make it!
