Jubilant praise is a dominant theme in the book of Psalms, and so it's fitting that we find ourselves looking at this beautiful collection of poetry on Thanksgiving week.books in the Bible and the only one written by multiple authors, Psalms features the shortest chapter (117) and the longest chapter (119) in Scripture. Rich with words of comfort, hope, fear, doubt, and perhaps every possible human emotion, the Psalms speak to our inner struggles and read like a book of devotionals.
The greatest treasure in the book of Psalms is its timeless relevance. In his Old Testament history survey, The Old Testament Speaks, Dr. Samuel J. Schultz wrote, "... they [the Psalms] express the common experience of the human race. Composed by numerous authors, the various psalms express the emotions, personal feelings, attitudes, gratitude, and interests of the average individual. Universally, people have identified their lot in life with that of the psalmists."
