Balaam Foresaw the Coming Messiah

The strange account of Balaam and his donkey is a Bible story that's hard to forget. With a talking donkey and an angel of God, it makes the ideal lesson for a children's Sunday School class. But are you wondering why I would turn to this story on the week before Christmas?

If you've studied Balaam, then you know he was a pagan sorcerer. What you may not remember is that God used this godless man to prophecy about Israel's coming Messiah:

I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near:
a star shall come out of Jacob,
and a scepter shall rise out of Israel;
it shall crush the forehead of Moab
and break down all the sons of Sheth.
