Learn about our Editorial Process Updated on January 14, 2020 Christian book clubs can choose to read nonfiction Christian books, Christian fiction or popular books that can be considered from a Christian perspective. This list of book club recommendations for Christian book clubs includes books from each of these categories. 'The Shack' by William P. Young 'The Shack' by William P. Young. Windblown Media The Shack by William P. Young is a fiction story about a man who spends a weekend with God at the shack where his youngest daughter's bloody clothes were found after she was kidnapped and murdered. The Shack is about entering the heart of suffering and about who God is. It has been popular with Christians and non-Christians alike but has also stirred controversy. 'Room of Marvels' by James Bryan Smith 'Room of Marvels'. B&H Publishing Group Room of Marvels by James Bryan Smith is about a man who gets to visit heaven in the midst of grieving three losses -- the death of his mother, daughter, and best friend. Although Room of Marvels is fiction, Smith wrote it after he experienced the same thing as the main character in the book. His best friend was Christian singer-songwriter Rich Mullins, and the daughter in the book has the same name as his daughter. 'The Reason for God' by Timothy Keller The Reason for God by Timothy Keller. Penguin The Reason for God is a nonfiction book that addresses the most common objections to Christianity and presents a case for the rationality of Christianity. The Reason for God would be good for a Christian book club that wants to talk directly about issues in faith rather than getting at issues through stories. This is a good book for those wanting to examine their doubts or learn to engage others better. 'The Hiding Place' by Corrie Ten Boom The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom. Baker Publishing Group The Hiding Place is the true story of how Corrie Ten Boom and her family hid Jewish families from Nazis during World War II and how she survived Hitler's death camps with a strong faith in a good and loving God. This is a nonfiction story full of gems for Christian book clubs. 'Cutting for Stone' by Abraham Verghese Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. Knopf Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese is a popular literary novel that tells the story of a nun in Ethiopia who has twin boys. The story is bursting with themes of loss, reconciliation, and redemption. Christian book clubs could bring their faith to bear in discussing the story and would be able to engage the popular culture at the same time. 'Little Bee' by Chris Cleave 'Little Bee' by Chris Cleave. Simon & Schuster Little Bee by Chris Cleave is a fiction novel, but in the afterward, he shares what parts of his research were true. Little Bee details some big areas of injustice and also shines a light on the human heart through the choices the main characters make. It would be a great novel for Christian book clubs to dig into.
