The Bottom Line

This is the first book I've read by Mary Connealy but it won’t be the last. A lot of authors attempt romantic comedy and fail, but Mary Connealy managed to pull it off.

The story centers on Grace Calhoun, a schoolmarm who has her hands full with the five Reeves boys who seem determined to get rid of her. When Grace is forced to marry Daniel, the widowed father of the five rapscallions, she believes things couldn’t get worse. How wrong she is.

Throw in plenty of snow and a man chasing Grace for revenge, and you have a recipe for a good read.

Pros

  • Funny
  • Fast-paced
  • Well-written

Cons

  • Multiple storylines were confusing at first.

Book Review - Calico Canyon by Mary Connealy

The book was fast-paced and genuinely funny with just enough romance to make it sweet. Drawing on the experiences of her mother-in-law, Mary portrays the rough and tumble of boys in a convincing way. I laughed out loud when Grace began to cry and the Reeves men were horrified, backing away like she carried the plague.

While Grace and Daniel’s story unfolds, we also have two other stories being told. At first I found it slightly confusing, trying to work out where the other characters fit in, but not for long.

I’m sure the stories of Adam and Tilly, as well as Grace’s sisters, will unfold in future books.
