3 Christmas Story Poems About the Savior's Birth

The Christmas Story began thousands of years before the first Christmas. Immediately after the Fall of Man in the Garden of Eden, God told Satan a Savior would come for the human race:

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel. (Genesis 3:15, NIV)

From the Psalms through the Prophets to John the Baptist, the Bible gave ample notice that God would remember his people, and he would do it in a miraculous way. His coming was both quiet and spectacular, in the middle of the night, in an obscure village, in a lowly barn:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14, NIV)

The Christmas Story Poem

Before the earth was molded,
before the dawn of man,
before there was a universe,
God devised a plan.

He looked into the future,
in the hearts of unborn men,
and saw only rebellion,
disobedience and sin.

They would take the love he gave them
and the freedom to decide,
then turn their lives against him
in their selfishness and pride.

They seemed bent on destruction,
determined to do wrong.
But saving sinners from themselves
was God's plan all along.

"I will send a Rescuer
to do what they can't do.
A sacrifice to pay the price,
to make them clean and new.

"But only One is qualified
to bear this heavy cost;
My spotless Son, the Holy One
to die upon a cross."

Without hesitation
Jesus stood up from his throne,
"I want to give my life for them;
It is my task alone."

In eons past a plan was formed
and sealed by God above.
A Savior came to set men free.
And did it all for love.

The First Christmas

It would have gone unnoticed
in that sleepy little town;
a couple in a stable,
cows and donkeys all around.

A single candle flickered.
In the orange glow of its flame,
an anguished cry, a soothing touch.
Things would never be the same.

They shook their heads in wonder,
for they could not understand,
the puzzling dreams and omens,
and the Spirit's stern command.

So they rested there exhausted,
husband, wife and newborn son.
History's greatest mystery
had only just begun.

And on a hillside outside town,
rough men sat by a fire,
startled from their gossip
by a great angelic choir.

They dropped their staffs,
they gaped in awe.
What was this wondrous thing?
That angels would proclaim to them
heaven's newborn king.

They journeyed into Bethlehem.
The Spirit led them down.
He told them where to find him
in the sleepy little town.

They saw a tiny baby
wiggling gently on the hay.
They fell upon their faces;
there was nothing they could say.

Tears trickled down their wind burned cheeks,
their doubts had finally passed.
The proof lay in a manger:
Messiah, come at last!

The Very First Christmas Day

"The Very First Christmas Day" is an original Christmas story poem that tells of the Savior's birth in Bethlehem.

His parents had no money, although He was a King—
An angel came to Joseph one night as he dreamed.
"Don't be afraid to marry her, this child is God's own Son,"
And with these words from God's messenger, their journey had begun.

They traveled to the city, their taxes to be paid—
But when Christ was born they found no place for the baby to be laid.
So they wrapped Him up and used a lowly manger for His bed,
With nothing else but straw to place beneath the Christ-child's head.

The shepherds came to worship Him, the wise men traveled too—
Led by a star up in the sky, they found the baby new.
They gave him gifts so wondrous, their incense, myrrh, and gold,
Thus completes the greatest story of a birth 'twas ever told.

He was just a tiny baby, born in a stable far away—
They had no reservations, and nowhere else to stay.
But His birth was so majestic, in a simple sort of way,
A baby born in Bethlehem on a very special day.

It was the Savior born in Bethlehem, on the very first Christmas Day.
