From time to time I receive complaints about the advertising on the Christianity website. In particular, I'm frequently asked questions such as, "Why are there Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon) ads on the website?" Please know that your concerns are very important to me.
I can assure you that as a your Guide to the Christianity site, I am not involved in the decisions regarding the content, frequency, or formatting of the advertising on About.com. All links under section headings: “Sponsored Links,” “Christianity Ads,” and “Advertisement,” are handled by the larger network of About.com and are beyond my control. These ads lead my readers away from the site. While I apologize for any inappropriate or objectionable material, you can be certain that I do not endorse or sponsor any of these advertisers, their products or their site content.
In the case of the Mormon ad, the LDS Church bought advertising space on the About.com religion channel. So, like other similar display ads, this one appears on every "Religion & Spirituality" website on About.com.
Since About.com is an advertiser-supported network, the ads simply make it possible for this website to be free of charge for you. And while some ads admittedly seem misplaced or undesirable, they do make it possible for the Christianity site to exist with the continued goal of offering free practical and spiritual resources for living the Christian faith in today's world.
If you have a comment or concern about an ad, the best way to get your message to the appropriate party is to fill out the customer care feedback form. You can help me get undesirable ads removed by expressing your displeasure with them. Please fill out the feedback form here.
Sincerely,
