Amy Lee Grant: Amy Grant is an American singer, songwriter, and recording artist who got her start in the Contemporary Christian Music genre. She is one of the first Christian artists to have successfully crossed over into the pop music market.
Date of Birth: November 25, 1960.
Family and Home: Grant was born in Augusta, Georgia, and raised in Nashville, Tennessee. She married her first husband, Christian singer-songwriter Gary Chapman in June of 1982. The two separated and divorced in 1999, disappointing many Christian fans. In 2000 Grant married country musician-singer Vince Gill. Grant and Gill make their home in Nashville, Tennessee, with a blended family of 5 children.
Career: At the age of 16, Grant signed her first recording contract and began her career, releasing her first album ("Amy Grant") in 1977. It was an instant success in the Christian music market. By 1982, with the release of the popular songs "El Shaddai" and the Grant-Chapman collaboration, "In A Little While," Grant became a star, winning her first Grammy for Best Contemporary Gospel Performance and two Dove Awards for Gospel Artist of the Year and Pop/Contemporary Album of the Year
By 1985 Grant had successfully crossed over into the mainstream pop market while still maintaining popularity in the Christian music realm. Though many fans were shocked and outraged by Grant's cross-over into pop culture, many of her Christian fans remained loyal. Despite her success in pop, Grant never abandoned her Christian music roots and in 2005 released "Rock of Ages," a collection of hymns.
Most recently Grant joined the reality TV craze by hosting "Three Wishes," a show that promises to appeal to a faith-based audience as wishes are granted, prayers are answered and miracles come true in small towns across America.
Education: Grant majored in English at Vanderbilt University, however, after recording a few albums, decided to drop out of college to pursue a career in music. Grant is a graduate of Harpeth Hall School.
