Sharon's Saved Marriage

Christian Testimony of a Marriage Saved by Respect

As newlyweds, Sharon and her husband struggled in marriage, but Sharon didn't understand why. In less than a year, they found themselves in divorce court. Then Sharon gave her life to Jesus Christ, and soon God revealed the reason for her struggles. She wasn't respecting her husband. As Sharon began to apply the truth of God's Word, it changed her life and saved her marriage.

Sharon's Saved Marriage

In December 2005, before we were married, my husband invited me to church. In April of the following year, we were married.

We struggled in the beginning of our marriage and I didn't know why. I would make decisions without letting my husband know, and I didn't understand why he would get upset. I felt as though I was being ordered to ask for permission to do things.

Landing in Divorce Court

This attitude of mine eventually landed us in divorce court. It wasn't until I decided to give my life to the Lord in January 2007, that God revealed the reason for our struggles in marriage.

It was something so simple. I wasn't respecting my husband.

Ephesians 5:33 says, "However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." (NIV)

A Changed Life - A Saved Marriage

This Bible verse changed my life and saved my marriage. Every day I read it now, so I can stop and ask myself, Am I doing something that is disrespectful to my husband?

I know I am not perfect, but I do recognize when I have failed. Now, I ask my husband to forgive me. And, of course, he always does.

I've come to understand why reading the Word of God is so important. Without it my marriage would have been lost. Today my husband and I have a healthy relationship and can communicate openly. Thank you, Jesus!
