Abraham's Search - From Despair to New Meaning
I committed my life to the Savior 27 years ago. Prior to that, although in some sense I was a seeker, I too was becoming a materialist who believed that physics and the sciences could explain all that is in this universe including human emotions.Although I came from a Christian background, at some point in my late childhood or early adulthood I concluded wrongly that the Bible, like other epics and scriptures, was a myth. I may have been influenced by some of my friends and my "intellectual" reasoning, that thoughts are chemical processes within the brain, which is governed by interaction among the molecules involved in the brain. This is very much in line with the "science of evolution" and "cause and effect" taught in schools.
Total Despair
Eventually this kind of thinking led me to total despair. As a child, I was already something of a loner with very few friends. I had severe feelings of inadequacy which made me very nervous. This led to a host of problems in my social interactions - which made me feel even more miserable. I had even contemplated ending my life in moments of severe inadequacy and despair.
Then, thanks to the persistent witness of one of my friends, I committed my life to God, accepting His gracious forgiveness of my sins. I truly consider this a miracle of God. My friend came from a background quite dissimilar to mine and was the least expected person to turn religious. However, praise God, he did.
He persisted with me for a few days or maybe even weeks, explaining that I was a sinner and I needed to be saved by trusting my Savior who died for me. He would spend hours showing me verses from the Bible. I found this odd because my friend, Sajan, was more acquainted with the latest pop music than with the Bible!
New Meaning
Finally I did accept Jesus as my Savior and sure enough my life gained new meaning. Soon afterward, in a different city where I had gone for higher studies, I was immediately befriended by a mature believer (again, a miracle) who helped me grow in Christ. He and I and others met for regular Bible studies. Incidentally, he happened to be a physicist and I realized that even scientists can and do believe in God!After completing my studies, I became employed in a manufacturing unit where I now hold a responsible position. I was also married soon after this to my wife Preeta -the girl that the Lord chose for me. We have a great marriage, and I am now the father of Sam (17) and Sara (11). I hope and pray that I am bringing them up in the fear of the Lord.
