DeAnna's Poem - From Abuse to Surrender

I drag my battle-scarred soul
To kneel by my bed and pray
Because I can't go on
I can't face another day

My body's beaten and bruised
From lack of respect
My face is tear-stained
Due to abuse and neglect

For I chose to do drugs
And give up on myself
I put nothing before it
I put my heart on a shelf

I abandoned my children
And turned away from friends
I let go of all my passions
And didn't bother with amends

I took things that weren't mine
Never giving those things back
I became a different person
While I was smoking crack

I sold my possessions and my body
I even sold my soul
For without another "hit"
I didn't think that I was whole

I hurt the ones who love me
Their love I couldn't afford
But, above all I hurt
My Christ, my Savior, my Lord

I now sit here all alone
Behind a dark concrete wall
Facing a prison sentence
Because I've broken man's law

But I've come to the Lord
And asked forgiveness for my sins
I've opened my heart wide
And begged Him to come in

For He is the only answer
Now my heart's no longer black
I have the strength I need
To fight the battle of crack!

So get thee behind me, satan
In the name of Jesus Christ
I'm taking back what's mine
I'm taking back my life!

I now choose to live by
The righeous Word of the Lord
For it's because of my sins
That His blood did pour

My Savior lay down
And died upon the cross
He gave His very life for me
I am now found -- not lost!
