Maryjo believed in Jesus as a young child, but a dysfunctional home life turned her into an angry, rebellious adolescent. She continued down a bitter path until, at age 45, Maryjo became very ill. She was diagnosed with cancer—specifically, non-Hodgkin's follicular lymphoma. Knowing what she needed to do, Maryjo re-committed her life to Jesus Christ and soon found herself experiencing an awesome miracle of healing. She is now cancer-free and lives to tell others what God can do for those who trust and believe in him.

Early Life

Maryjo started out believing in Jesus, but never took on the role of a servant for God or had a passion to do his will. While she was saved and baptized at age 11 on Easter Sunday back in 1976, as she grew, she was not taught the basics about becoming a servant of the Lord.

A Path of Misery

Growing up in a dysfunctional home, Maryjo and her sisters were constantly being abused and neglected while everyone around them turned a blind eye. In her teen years, she started rebelling as a way of seeking justice and her life started down the path of total misery and grief.

Struggles hit her left and right. She always felt that she was in the valley of suffering and might never see the mountaintop she had dreamed of. Throughout over 20 years of stressful living, Maryjo carried around hate, anger, and bitterness. She accepted and believed in the notion that maybe God really didn't love us. If he did, then why were we abused so much?

Diagnosis

Then, seemingly out of the blue, Maryjo got sick. It was a surreal, numbing, aching event that unfolded before her eyes—one minute she was sitting in a doctor's office, and the next she was being scheduled for a CT-Scan.

At only 45 years old, Maryjo was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's follicular lymphoma, stage IV—she had tumors in five zones and was close to death. The doctor could not even elaborate because of how bad it was and how far it had developed, she just said, "It's not curable but it's treatable, and as long as you are responding, we can get you well."

Treatment

As part of her treatment plan, doctors performed a bone marrow biopsy and removed a lymph-node under her right arm. A port-catheter was inserted for chemotherapy and she endured seven R-CHOP chemotherapy rounds. The treatments essentially broke down her body and she had to build it back up every 21 days. Maryjo was a very sick woman and thought she would never get through it, but she saw what she had to do to survive.

Healing Prayers

Before her diagnosis, a dear friend from school, Lisa, had introduced Maryjo to the most wonderful church. As months of chemo left her broken, beaten down, and very sick, the deacons and elders of the church gathered around one night, laid hands on her, and anointed her as they prayed for healing.

God healed her sick body that night. It was just a matter of going through the motions as the power of the Holy Spirit worked inside her. With the passage of time, an awesome miracle of the Lord Jesus Christ was revealed and witnessed by everyone. Maryjo re-committed her life to Jesus Christ and she entrusted control of her life to him. She knew that without Jesus she simply wouldn't make it through.

While her cancer treatment was hard on her body and mind, God had the Holy Spirit within Maryjo doing a mighty work. Now, there are no more masses or diseased lymph nodes in her body.

What God Can Do

Jesus came to die on the cross to save us from our sins. That's how much he loves us. He will never leave you, even in your darkest hour. The Lord can do amazing things if we trust and believe in him. If we ask, we shall receive his riches and glory. Just open up your heart and ask him to come inside and be your personal Lord and Savior.

Maryjo is a walking, breathing miracle of what our Lord God has done. Her cancer is in remission and she now leads an obedient life, During her illness, people prayed for me all over the world—from India and all the way back to America and Asheville, NC to her church, Glory Tabernacle. God has blessed Maryjo with a wonderful family of believers and he continues to reveal wonders in her life and prove his unwavering love and mercy for us all.
