Today's Bible Verse:

Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.
(NIV)

Today's Inspiring Thought: Consider Others Better Than Yourself

"The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good." Many people attribute this quote to Samuel Johnson, but there's no evidence of it in his writings. Others give credit to Ann Landers. It doesn't matter who said it. The idea is biblical.

Some Christian leaders ignore the true servants in the body of Christ while giving extra attention and special treatment to their wealthy, influential, and "famous" brothers and sisters. However, God wants us to treat everyone with honor, not just the people we pick and choose. Jesus Christ calls us to care about the interests of others: "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." (John 13:34–35, NLT)

Love Others Like Jesus Loves Us

If we always treat others with kindness and respect, the way we want to be treated, or maybe even a little better, many of the world's problems would be solved. Imagine if we practiced Romans 12:10 while driving: "Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other." (NLT)

When an impatient driver tries to cut in front of us, we would simply smile, slow down a bit, and let him in.

We are talking about selfless love. Humility instead of pride and selfishness. This kind of selfless love is completely foreign to most. To love like this, we have to take on the same attitude as Jesus Christ, who humbled himself and became a servant to others. We have to die to our selfish ambition.

Here are a few more verses to consider:

Galatians 6:2
Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.
(NLT)

Ephesians 4:2
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
(NLT)

Ephesians 5:21
And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
(NLT)

That about sums it up.
