Bible Software
Software Name & Version (e.g., Logos Bible Software 4):
BibleWorks 8
My Review
This application is fast, efficient and focused on working with the text. Specifically, it is focused on studying the original languages. I added that capability in another Bible program I own and use, and although it works, it doesn't work as well as BibleWorks, and its focus is different--on study, sermon preparation and lesson planning.
Since BibleWorks is narrowly focused, it is fast. It not only had the TNIV, it had a translation into English of the early church fathers' works. I can read parallel versions, highlight words in various colors to see where differences in translations occur, and use the language tools it provides to learn Hebrew and Greek well enough to sit down and read as well as better understand why translators make the choices they make.
What is the best feature of the software?
Speed. It loads quickly, searches quickly, and brings up reference materials quickly.
How could the software be improved?
Oh...include an AI that is an expert in languages which can pop up and assist you, ask questions and pose learning opportunities for you, the user.
Was the software a good value for the price you paid?
Indeed. One-tenth the price and ninety percent of the functionality I want from the other program I use.
What software features do you use most?
Search. Lexical tools. Parallel Bibles.
What is your primary use for the software?
Bible study and non-student study of Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek.
What else would you like people to know?
Look at it closely, it may be all you need. They have recently partnered with WORDsearch in order to add commentaries and some other materials to the product. A win-win solution for both companies.
How long have you used the software?
1-3 years.
