What I Liked Most & Least About this Book / Author
This book is a quick read and should provide satisfying inspiration to those who feel God’s presence in their everyday lives. The dilemma of the main characters is surely food for thought. With a suspenseful plot, the writer infuses magic behind her well-chosen words.
My Review
The Silver and the Cross is a book of spirited faith that remains undaunted in spite of numerous obstacles.
In 1890, lovely Leora Brown and her minister father have relocated from Boston to the remote silver mining town of Wallace in Idaho Territory. Edward Lycroft is a handsome English foreman in a silver mine. Immediately he becomes infatuated by Leora, but disgruntled to learn that her father is a Christian preacher.
On the other hand, while attracted to Edward’s honesty, good nature and educated ways, Leora is troubled by his claim that he does not believe in an Almighty God. Leora knows that her religious convictions are her life; God means everything to her. She knows she cannot allow her emotions to center on a non-believer, though she pities Edward and prays for his soul.
Edward finds he cannot stay distant from her, deliberately making opportunities happen so their paths cross. The friendship between the two grows, and he finally confesses his love.
Leora, broken-hearted, turns away, refusing to love a man who does not love her God. What will happen across this vast chasm between Edward and Leora is the magic behind the well-chosen words of Ms. Mulroy.
Can these lovers find some compromise, or will each go a separate way?
