Loneliness: Toothache of the Soul
Wednesday June 21, 2006
Are you a single Christian battling with persistent feelings of loneliness?
As one who spent many of my adult years as a single Christian, not marrying until the age of 31, I can say that I've experienced my share of loneliness. I spent four years on the mission field. During that time of singleness I had what I consider, a "break through" in the area of loneliness.
One thing that contributed to finding peace and fulfillment in the midst of singleness was reading the book, The Path of Loneliness: Finding Your Way Through the Wilderness to God, by Elizabeth Elliott. Living in a foreign country and not being able to communicate through the language of my heart, I discovered my loneliness conducting me into a much deeper intimacy with my Savior.
In his article, Loneliness: Toothache of the Soul, Jack Zavada examines the very same principles that helped me overcome a deep sense of loneliness. Check out this excerpt:

H’mm,
You have some good thoughts and give some helpful links for those of us who are single.
However I think living as a single until the grand old age of 31 isn’t truly having lived as a single!
Try say 55-60?? Then you can say you have experience living your life as a Single Lol!
Blessings and thanks for trying.
I agree with Maureen! I’m 52 & never married.
Why you never got married?
