10 Birthday Reminders of God's Eternal Love

"However many years anyone may life, let them enjoy them all." (Ecclesiastes 11:8, NIV)

LearnReligions / Cassandra Fontaine

In Bible times, the day of someone's birth and subsequent anniversaries were days for rejoicing and often feasting. Two birthdays are recorded in the Bible: Joseph’s pharaoh in Genesis 40:20, and Herod Antipas in Matthew 14:6 and Mark 6:21.

A birthday is an excellent time to reflect on God's love. We are each special to the Lord, unique and precious in his eyes. God's plan of salvation is available to every human being, so that we may enjoy happiness and life with him forever.

The ancient Jews rejoiced when a child was born. We, too, can rejoice in God's love with these birthday Bible verses.

10 Happy Birthday Bible Verses

Here the psalmist rejoices that for all of his life, even from his birth, he has known God's faithful protection and care:

From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you. I have become a sign to many; you are my strong refuge. My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long. (Psalm 71:6-8, In Psalm 139, the writer meditates in awe and wonder on the mystery of his own creation by God:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. (Psalm 139:13-16, NIV)

This passage gives a good reason to praise the Lord: all creatures and things including you and me were created by his command. We are invited to join our voices in praise of the Lord:

Let them praise the name of the LORD, for at his command they were created ... (Psalm 148:5, NIV)

These verses read like a father pleading with his son to gain wisdom, learn right from wrong, and stay on the straight path. Only then will the child find success and long life:

Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble. Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life. (Proverbs 4:10-13, NIV)
For through wisdom your days will be many, and years will be added to your life. (Proverbs 9:11, NIV)

Solomon reminds us to enjoy all the years of our lives in all of their dimensions. The times of joy and even of sorrow are to be appreciated in a positive light:

However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. (Ecclesiastes 11:8, NIV)

God will never abandon us. He tenderly cares for us from infancy, through childhood, adulthood, and even into old age. His arms will never tire, his eyes are ever watchful, his protection never fails:

Even to your The Apostle Paul explains that none of us are independent beings. We all have different gifts, but they complement and enhance each other. We need each other, and all of us have our source in God:

For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God. (1 Corinthians 11:12, NIV)

Salvation is a gift of God's infinite love. Heaven is ours only because of his gift of grace. The entire process is God's doing. Human pride has no place in this work of salvation. Our new life in Christ is God's creative masterpiece by design. He prepared a path of good works for us to do and he will make those good works happen in our lives as we walk by faith. This is the Christian life:

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's handiwork, created in Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. (James 1:17-18, NIV)
